High Fidelity

In the last class we watched a movie title High Fidelity. Afterward, we had to answer a few Questions regarding the movie.

The first Question: What is the movie about?

Well I managed to get a picture about the movie after seeing the title and upon hearing a brief explanation from sir. Well the movie is about the love life of Rob Gordon which was played by one of Hollywood handsome and talented actor, John Cusack. The story starts with rob breaking up with Laura, his current girlfriend. This incident leaves him in despaired, and he starts to rethink back about his previous relationship with five of his exes which hurt him the most. Well, he has this top five list of the most memorable breakup which I think is a very interesting, as he managed to remember it well. The first one to top the list is Alison Hardwick. He was in seven grades and their relationship only lasted for six hours. It ended when Rob discover Alison lip locking with Kevin. Rob find out later that Alison married Kevin. Another one is Penny Hardwick. She had an image of a straight A's students and got a good personality. But Rob was feeling lust out of love for her. So he ditches her after numerous attempts to have sex with her fails. But why does this make it so memorable for him?? After the break up, Penny went out on a date with one of his classmate and after three dates they had sex .This strike a blow to Rob. Then he met with Charlie Nicholson (which was played by Catherine Zeta-Jones). They dated for about 2years before Charlie dumped him for another guy. The same story also seems to apply with his other exes. Though his relationship with Laura has ended, still he was not ready to let her go. Furthermore, he felt insecure after knowing that Laura is having an affair and living with Ian. He began to stalk her outside Ian house and call her every now and then. To solve his problems, he began to look for his past girlfriend to find the answer on why he was constantly being dumped. Before this, he pictured his exes as flawless and he falls for that. After seeing them, again he realizes that they are like fantasies because he did not managed to see the bad side of them. Only now he knew that they have their negative side that he was glad the break up happens. But even before the break up, he sees Laura differently, for him she is like the reality due to her weaknesses. Still she is perfect for him. His numerous attempts to reconcile back his love relationship with Laura fail badly. However, the death of Laura father helps to reunite them as she wants Rob to be by her side to get by. Rob own a record shop called, Championship Vinyl, located at Honore and Milwaukee Streets. Rob and his employees, Dick (Todd Louiso) and Barry (Jack Black) spend their time in the shop discussing about artist and music. Barry and Dick were employed to work for three days only for each week, but they show up at work everyday. Barry is an obnoxious clerk who likes to make fun to those who have little knowledge or acquire different sense of music from him. On the other hand, Dick is quieter and less forceful with his opinions, and treat customer far more kindly that Barry. Rob life seems to improve in his career when he began to create a record label, The Top 5. Laura contributes to the development by organizing an event, in which Rob end up DJing and Barry perform with his new band. It end with Rob finally knows the meaning of a relationship and he wants to create a new mix - tape for Laura.

The second question: How it is different from a common love fiction?

This story is very different from the other love fiction that I’ve watched. Firstly, it provides us with the insight of the main character feeling and opinion. Very few love fiction provide us information on what goes on the character minds. But Cusack managed to portray the inside mind of the character to the audience and he managed to make it look effortless. Like for an example he made it clear that he was only looking for sex when he was in a relationship with poor Penny. Secondly, the story line is different from the usual love story, usually the boy ditch the girl and he regrets it later and bla..bla..bla..however, we saw that it was the girl who was being a player. i like this part as it highlight to the new and current situation where nowadays both men and women are equal. Women no longer is the one weeping after being ditch nor stay there just to take whatever loser or problem they have in a relationship. Charlie character managed to stress these issues as she explains the reason why she left Rob. It is because she found a better and more glamorous guy than him. Which happen a lot nowadays in several relationships regardless of gender. Not only that, I found that the romantic effects in this movies is rather different and less romantic compare to other movie. I could not find any romantic words that Rob utter. Even his wedding proposal towards Laura seems really unromantic and quite harsh I think. Not that i was expecting dinner for two and a ring in her soup. But, come on, he did even bring a ring and they meet at some diner. But it managed to portray to the viewer that you don’t need a fancy and a flowery wedding proposal to get marry, be sincere and adventurous. Lastly is the music that they use. Maybe back then it was not that old. But still it is like ancient to me. Most of the romantic movies slip in classical music or the new love song. This movie is different as it provides a lots of information about records and artist aside from Rob love life.

The third question: Who’s your favorite character?

My favorite character is Laura. Because in this movie, she shown a very solid character. She is brave and firm in her decision. She was not afraid to end up her relationship with Rob when she felt that it was going nowhere. Some of the girls are afraid to find someone else; it is because they are afraid that they will never find someone better. Here Laura shows that she got guts and i admired it. Furthermore, she always seems to know what she wants in her life. For an example when she says that she wants and need Rob after her father's funeral though they had break up. Next, when she wants to end her relationship with Ian to be with Rob again and when she did not hesitate to accept Rob proposal. Her cool and sleek attitude impresses me as she shows us a characteristic of a tough, charismatic young career woman.

The fourth question: Provide an ultimate ending

The ultimate ending for me is that Rob managed to succeed in becoming a major record company, that is The Top 5. He becomes famous that all of his exes came looking for him back. Though he is loyal to Laura, he still sneak off to find romance and to fulfill his fantasies with his artist including Marie DeSalle. Little that he knows, Laura is seeing Ian behind his back. Both of them did not have a clue on each other affairs. Yet they remain as a happy and rich couple. While Dick fails to pursuit his relationship with his girlfriend because he found that he find Barry far more interesting. Barry and Dick relationship grew more than just friend.

My New Semester

it's new alright, but it is making my biological cloack older before i realized it. i think about all the disasterous things that i had to endure just to pass this few weeks of the new semester, well it wears me down. I had a couple of argument, shed a bit of tears, and added a few kilos..just when i thought things couldn't get worst people starts to complain bout my weight and appearance..well i do admit that i've always had this silly feeling of insecure about myself..apparently, i dont blame others for complaining. being highly ambitious, i always brag that by the new semester they will see the new version of me..the one who can fit into size s n look stunning in it..basically, i'm not fat and my body mass index is okay..but somehow i envy those who posses the portion of a model..why??because they look drop dead georgeous wearing anything..okay maybe not anything (lingeries and swimswear my not look so good in them)..but its hard without sheer determination to lose weight..because i love food and when i'm depressed( which usually happen) i carve for them. .still nothing is impossible. i've done it once..so i believe i can do it again..time will tell..

This is the first time i'm writing a blog..so please considered yourself lucky..i'm not ashamed to tell you this because being a 'reserved' person (this is how my mother describe me) i rarely share my feeling or exposed myself with others.But dont get me wrong, i do mix around and live in a healthy social life.. i don't need to explain more..hmm..i need to stop now..we'll get in touch latter..so wait for my second blog..papai..
